Occupied with the campaign season. The Coffee Break 4 August 2015.
Yes indeed summer is when people buckle down to earn some extra credits (I like “Credits” as opposed to “cash”). While I have been occupied with work (and thankfully no longer on the night shift rotation) I have been playing the usual lot of games – The Old Republic, Bad Company 2, and that’s about it.
Now in recent times I have been able to enjoy a bit of World of Warships, and while it is still in beta, the gameplay thus far shows a promising future ahead for this free to play warship game. While the market for wargaming in general is mainly dominated with ground combat titles (and will continue down this trend for the foreseeable future), it is nice to see the navy getting some love from time to time. Plus there is also Battlefleet Gothic Armada coming out soon, so here’s hoping that title isn’t utter tripe when it releases.
Mobile gaming on a smart phone – now there’s something I never imagined myself doing. Sure I am primarily a PC gamer, but nowadays I am looking at other alternatives. Lately it’s been Hearthstone and Drop Assault (Horus Heresy-set top down attack and defend game from Games Workshop; the publisher I have no idea who they are at the time of writing this article). Presently there is a humble bundle of Games Workshop mobile games on sale – perhaps it is time to open up a new frontier to explore, yes?
Batman Arkham Knight is still – well – a disappointment on PC. The console release was top notch, but the PC launch was buggier than a nest of beetles. Alongside this bit of disappointment from June, Halo 5 will not have splitscreen; sure people play online nowadays, but I would still like to have a buddy come over for a few beers and play together in the same living room rather than: “hey, let’s meet up online.” The appeal of having a living person next to you to goof around as you accidentally kill them with a punch to the back (Halo 2 memories) is somewhat diminished if the person in question is no longer physically able to play with you in the same room on the same TV. Perhaps it might be time for me to go PS4; at least a good chunk of their titles have splitscreen multiplayer; here’s hoping that doesn’t change.
Okay folks, that’s about all I have time for today. Hope you guys are enjoying your summer (or winter if you are in the southern hemisphere), and I shall see you next time.
